The Great Wall is one of the wonders in the world. It’s one of the great wonders the Chinese nation has contributed to the world.

The Great Wall is known for its length to the world. “Two thousand years through, ten thousand miles across!” The length of the Great Wall not only means it is more than 5,000 kilometers’ long, but also means it has more than 2000 years’ construction history.

As we all know, Emperor Qin Shihuang's major achievement was the construction of the Great Wall. In fact, the whole construction of the Great Wall was a huge project spanning the entire ancient history for more than 2,000 years.

Badaling Great Wall: Located in Yanqing County, northwest of Beijing, it is the essence of the Great Wall. It is an important part of the Great Wall, a great defense project in ancient China. It is a pass of Ming Great Wall. The Badaling Great Wall typically shows the majestic and steep features of the Great Wall. As a barrier to Beijing, the mountains are overlapping and look dangerous. The mighty Wall spirals north and south among the mountains, with no end in sight.

It is also famous for its magnificent landscape, perfect facilities and profound cultural and historical connotations. It is also a world-famous tourist resort.

In addition to Emperor Qin Shihuang‘s great contribution to the Great Wall, he also unified China, Chinese characters, Chinese laws, weights and measures, etc. The reason of the pursuit of peace and unification could be traced back to Chinese culture, history, and cultural genes of this great unification.

Mentioning Badaling Great Wall, we have to mention the Hero Monument, located at the top, on the eighth floor of the north. On the Hero Monument, there is stone tablet with Chairman Mao's inscription, which is "He who doesn’t reach the Great Wall is not a true man". This was Chairman Mao's bold words to encourage the Red Army to go north to fight the Japanese. Later, it was used to encourage tourists to visit the Great Wall.

Over the past 60 years, more than 500 leaders of other states and governments and more than 8,000 dignitaries have visited Badaling. Badaling Great Wall is an eternal monument in the diplomatic history of new China.

The US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger visited the Great Wall on 22nd, Oct. 1971

As we all know, Emperor Qin Shihuang's main achievement to the Great Wall was to connect the walls of various countries, extend and reinforce them to create this magnificent Great Wall.

Beacon Towers are also very interesting. In ancient China, release smoke during the daytime and light fire at nighttime in case of enemies. It's "Wolf smoke” that we often hear about. By doing this, all beacon towers could be connected and information could be transmitted.

There is a beacon tower on each east and west side of Badaling Great Wall. The beacon tower is about 16 meters high, with small castles around it. It has very complicated structure and tight defense facilities, with soldiers standing guard.

Standing on the Great Wall, there was still the fighting momentum of the ancient fortified battlefield, looking around the enemy towers, beacon towers, facing each other. Every emperor of ancient China took laborious thought, in order to defend the territory, keep the security of the country,

Some people may ask, why not just carry out "active defense" and build up a strong strategic strike force to keep the enemy out of the country? The reason would trace back to the root of Chinese history.

The long river of history is rolling forward, Over the past 40 years of reform and opening-up, China has embraced the world with open mind and successfully achieved a great transition from a closed or semi-closed society to an overall opening country. As China enters a new era, it is chasing up, opening wider to the outside world, becoming a more powerful country.
